McMaster findings on therepeutic massage
2/21/2012 8:57:33 AM
Researchers at McMaster University’s Department of Kinesiology recently found that even brief muscle massage (as short as 10-minutes) triggers biochemical sensors that send inflammation-reducing signals to muscle cells as well as causing muscle to build more mitochondria cells which play an important role in healing. The research supports the use of massage for alleviating inflammation related chronic conditions such as arthritis and muscular dystrophy. The research appears in the Feb. 1/2012 issue of ‘Science Translational Medicine’.
